This work was a specially made for the poster image of the 2023 New Orleans BrechtFest IV event. The original painting was 30×48″ oil on canvas.
A modern parody of George Grosz’s 1926 ‘Pillars of Society’. Grosz was prophetic of the threat of fascism and was exiled by the Nazi regime to the US. I wanted this painting to bridge the gap between then and now to show the frightening resonance. The figures in his work (the journalist, bureaucrat, clergy, and bourgeoisie) are updated with contemporary political figures that played a roll in the January 6th coup attempt (Marjorie Taylor Greene, Clarence Thomas, Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, as well as a cameo of the Q-Anon Shaman). This is an 11×17″ poster print on archival Hot Press Bright White Heavy Smooth Matte Fine Art Paper with a 1/4 edge bleed.
